Teaching at Brainstation
Nov 2020 - Present | BrainStation | London, UK
As an Educator, I have taught seven consecutive (and occasionally concurrent) cohorts of the BrainStation, boot camp style, 12-week intensive course. Prior to becoming part of the Education team, I was also a Teaching Assistant, and then Senior Teaching Assistant for four previous cohorts.
The Course
This course is intended for people who want to make a career transformation. It is meant to take students from any background, and within 12 weeks, transition them into UX/UI Designers.
The course focuses on the IDEO methodology of Human-Centered Design, and teaches the fundamentals of becoming a Design Thinker. Over the 480-hour course, I guided students through the curriculum which broadly includes The Design Sprint, User Experience Design (IDEO Design Thinking Methodology) and UI Design.
The UX topics explored include developing How Might We statements, various user research methods and synthesis, experience maps, personas, user stories and epics, task flow diagrams, as well as information architecture and information models, wireframing, prototyping, interaction design, heuristics evaluations, and user testing and how to properly synthesize.
The UI topics explored include inputs and controls, design layouts, typography, grids & spacing, colour, accessibility and inclusive design, animation and motion design, design systems and UI libraries, designing for iOS and Android, responsive web design and designing for voice UI. Students graduate with a UX Design Diploma and proficiencies as UX and UI designers and fundamentally as Design Thinkers.
